Fundamentals of Mascot Design

Unique, charismatic and larger than life characters always fascinate humans and they easily get connected with them due to the inherent appreciation for humor. This is exactly why costumes and mascots are a very effective tool for marketing. All companies try to build a personality so that people could relate to that personality and become a loyal customer. The memory trigger that these characters create is beyond calculation.

It sounds easy, but building a personality around the corporate identity is a challenging task as several factors come into play in developing the personality. It is not just a cartoon character, it is an identity of your organization so be careful and informative about mascot costumes design. Here are some of the factors you need to consider while designing your mascot and costumes.

Purpose of Mascot

First thing first, the actor of your story needs a character, personality, and specific traits. You know about the corporate identity and impression you want to create in masses, so be specific with some room for flexibility of modification. Your product or service, target audience, and influencing factors must be taken into consideration so that effective and total personality could be designed. Be clear about visibility platform, as this will impact detailing.

Unique Features

Perceptual correlation of your mascot matters most when it comes to designing. If your mascot is for airlines, then s/he must have grace, welcoming features. Above it should be unique to attract eyeball, and then the details to build some feature-specific connect like the long nose, larger eye or big hand. Choose as your product demands. If you are in the coffee business, a Spanish lady feature with a little longer nose and satisfactory look go well with all coffee lovers.

Match the Color

Experts are of the view that it should always be vibrant. But people behave differently in the digital world as screens are too close to notice heavy vibrancy. So, maintain the balance according to corporate identity. If your mascot is for banking and finance, then he should be in a combination of blue as people accept it that way only. Add little seriousness like eyeglass and rounded face with some bodyweight.
There are other elements like posture, expression, skin color, a body shape that needs to be taken into consideration. But, keep the uniqueness in mind as you have to get that eyeball and impress your audience. So, don’t hesitate in experimenting!
